The Writing Centre is open 6 days a week at different time slots. Both ELU and FLS tutors volunteer one hour per week to help students improve their writing skills. The timetable is advertised at the start of each semester through the Learning Management Centre (LMS). In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the initiative has moved online. The Arab Open University is now offering the Digital Writing Centre.
Students can easily access these sessions through the LMS. A link will take them to the Digital Writing Centre course page where they can access the conference link hosted in the Centralized Course Content. There, they will also find a timetable specifying when each tutor is available and what the focus area is. A step-by-step guide will be available on LMS.
Students can ask about and practice a range of writing skills and sub-skills: common writing errors, basic and advanced sentence patterns, writing paragraphs, writing essays, citation, research writing, paraphrasing, summarizing and more. Experienced tutors use screen sharing, writing prompts and rewriting drafts, among many methods, to encourage students to improve their writing skills. This individual 'We Care' approach has been effective in improving the grammar and writing skills of many students.
